Posted on: July 6, 2010

the social network movieThe upcoming drama “The Social Network,” exposes Facebook, the popular social networking site, and its creation. The film will be released on October 1, 2010 and is directed by David Fincher, director of other highly influential movies such as “Fight Club” and “Zodiac.” The movie, “The Social Network” discusses the controversies involved in the founding of Facebook and its impact on the world.

About the film

The film was written by Aaron Sorkin and adapted form Ben Mezrich’s 2009 novel The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding Of Facebook, A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius, and Betrayal.

Jesse Eisenberg, the up and coming actor, will play Mark Zuckerberg, well known co-founder of Facebook.
The film’s hype continues to expand as Nine Inch Nails singer-songwriter Trent Reznor confirms he is composing the film’s soundtrack. Reznor announced on the Nine Inch Nails website last week:

I’m happy to tell you we’re nearing the completion of this and I couldn’t be happier with how it’s turnout. The level of excellence that director David Fincher operates on is inspiring and the entire process has been challenging and truly enjoyable.”

None of the Facebook staff, including Mark Zuckerberg, have been involved or have even sanctioned the making of the film.

Using Facebook to get attention

The internet marketing of the film has been spreading all over Facebook itself, disseminating the announcement of the arrival of the movie. As Facebook’s membership grows to nearly 500 million members, the upcoming film will be receiving an unprecedented amount of attention and viewer relevance.

The film’s slogan “You Don’t Get to 500 Million Friends without Making a Few Enemies,” and suspenseful trailer have been enough to spark interest in Facebook loyalists. The trailer hints at the exposure of the dark and deep controversies that went on behind the scenes of the social networking site’s birth, making it difficult for any Facebooker to feign disinterest.

I personally used Google to see the kind of exposure the film is receiving. I typed “the social network movie” with quotes, and received 1,540,000 results. It’s only July 6th, we have a little less than three months to wait for the release of the movie that discusses the ins and outs of the tool 500 million of us use on a daily basis.
